If you’ve been to my office you would have noticed that I share my space with the lovely Toni – Ayurvedic therapist. Some of you have even been to see her.
I find myself quite envious when people come out of a treatment with bones like jelly because they’re so relaxed. I often hear things like “that was amazing”, “that was the best massage/treatment I’ve ever had” and many variations of the same.
The treatments and massages etc are designed for your specific circumstances to help restore balance for you.
So what is an Ayurveda?
I have a very rudimentary understanding so if you know more about it than me and I sound clunky, please forgive me.
One article I read called it the Science of Life.
From my understanding, Ayurveda is an ancient healing system that focuses on creating and maintaining balance. The focus is on body, mind, and spirit/consciousness.
Rather than Western medicine where they start with symptoms and prescribe medication, Ayurveda looks at preventing disorders by promoting good health in the multiple domains.
How refreshing to be looking at health as something you cultivate rather than fix.
I think with everything that’s been happening with Covid etc we need to be cultivating our health. Our physical, mental and spiritual health.
And we need to be cultivating our health not just because of Covid and all the challenges to our mental, physical and spiritual balance.
We also live in a world that makes it easy for our lives to get completely and (seemingly) uncontrollably out of balance. We work too hard. We wear our busy-ness as a badge of honour. We have too much stress that we don’t have time to recover from. We race from place to place. And we often feel guilty if we’re not ‘doing enough’.
With a life like this we are going to be so far out of balance that we might need some help getting back there.
If that sounds like you, maybe you need to book in for an Ayurvedic treatment with the lovely Toni.
A lot of my clients will come see me for some psychological balance and then see Toni after to cultivate even more balance.
