There’s no denying that sometimes things can feel overwhelming. And that it can feel like everything is getting on top of you. Or that things are so bad there seems no way out. Or that right now you’re so anxious that nothing could soothe you.
We usually have habitual ways of dealing with these uncomfortable feelings, whether they’re feelings of overwhelm or sadness, or frustration, or fear, or just about any other uncomfortable feeling.
We can sink into them – collapse a little inside, let the feelings wash over us til we feel like we can’t get a full breath.
We can rail against them – get angry about them, fight their existence, put our emotions into blaming others or ourselves.
We can beat ourselves up for feeling like that in the first place – calling ourselves a failure or hopeless or worse.
Or…when the going gets tough….we can try to remember that there is always a place inside that is untouched by what is happening.
A place of calm.
A place of strength.
A place of resilience.
Sometimes it can be hard to remember that place is there.
Sometimes it can be hard to find it.
But if you search for long enough.
If you believe that it’s there, and you still the internal frenzy, and let yourself breathe, you will find it.
Just for today see if you can find your untouched space.
