I think I was born to be a psychologist. I grew up in a familiy where there was a lot of suffering. I had to try to make sense of things that just didn't make sense and to work out why all this crazy stuff was going on. That was really a special gift to me. It made me ask "Why?" "Why do people do the things they do?" I don't think I could I have chosen any other career but psychology with that question burning in my mind.

I have been working in private practice as a psychologist since 2006 and I've been in the psychological and mental health field since 2002. I'm finishing my PhD this year (yippee!!!). It's been a challenge but has taught me a lot about the importance of finding balance in my life and not pushing myself beyond what is healthy.

I co-created and co-facilitated a Mindfulness program for women with bulimia and binge eating problems as part of my PhD. The program received a lot of media attention - newspaper articles, radio interviews, and got me a trip to the fabulous Barcelona, Spain to present some preliminary results at a World Congress conference.

The Mindfulness program helped our wonderful participants (thankyou all for being part of it) to change their relationship with food and weight issues, and have some freedom from all the self-critical, perfectionistic, and punishing thoughts that go with having body image issues. And as a bonus, our wonderful women also reported being less stressed, anxious and depressed.

I continue to use Mindfulness in my practice and in my private life. It helps me live more authentically, be more in the here and now (rather than worrying about the future or past), and helps me accept myself and whatever troubles arise in my life.

I also draw on wisdom from traditional and cutting edge psychology, spirituality, and creative and experiential approaches to help keep me, and hopefully you, on the right track. I hope I can share what I have learnt on my journey to help you live the life you want.

"Go confidently in the directions of your dream. Live the life you have imagined."
Henry David Thoreau

I believe we all have the capacity for healing and we are all an amazing treasure and gift to the world. For some of us our true beauty is hidden under layers of dirt – the dirt being all the terrible things that have caused us pain or caused us to doubt or not like ourselves. Sometimes we identify more with the dirt than with our true nature.

Deciding to pick up the broom and start sweeping away the dirt, can be life changing. I encourage it for everyone. If psychology can help by being your broom, I’d love to hear from you.
